I’ve owned this JWBS-14CS for three months, and it is proven itself a worthy instrument and a good quality/value balance.
Throughout my analysis the Jet stood out as the clear alternative in its price range. Other saws just weren’t constructed with the Jet’s consideration to fit, finish, durability and ergonomics. I also preferred the mobile base-friendly closed stand (necessary in my tiny shop) and the big, tilting table. The wheel doors and pulley housing are made from stamped sheet metal instead of plastic like another saws on this price range. And the paint is better than on some new vehicles I’ve owned.
Setting up the JWBS-14CS was a snap. It arrived in two boxes, one for the closed base and the other for the C-frame and different assemblies. Its machined desk was coated in cosmoline and packed in a heavy plastic sleeve and all loose hardware organized into plastic bags. It took me about an hour and a half to mount the C-frame on the bottom, connect the belt and pulley housing (which required some bending to make the door open and shut properly) and mount the desk (the trickiest part). I did not encountered the weak bolts described by others. Jet seems to have upgraded its fasteners in response to buyer feedback. Essentially the most time-consuming a part of the setup process was blade and blade-information alignment, however step-by-step directions made this easy.
The controls on the JWBS-14CS are nicer |to make use of compared} with different saws I’ve used. The 1 HP motor provides plenty of energy (despite the poor blade) for tight jigsaw puzzle cuts in three/four” material and is adequate for resawing of 6″ hardwoods. Blade monitoring when resawing is appropriate; a resaw blade should enhance resaw performance.
The JWBS-14CS has solid blade guides which ought to be adjusted and sanded flat occasionally for optimal blade control. The strong guides seem to offer better blade tracking than the curler guides I’ve used in the past.
The main shortfall with the JWBS-14CS is its dust-collection. The 2″ port related beneath the table is of limited benefit. With a dust collector it reduces the amount of loose sawdust by, perhaps, 30%. I’ll likely replace this with one or two shop-constructed four” ports within the future.
Since I bought the Jet, Grizzly has come out with a 14″ saw that prices considerably less and offers features the Jet would not (notably, a fence and miter gauge). The only different saw I would think about is Delta’s US-made 14″ saw. It prices somewhat more however affords heftier desk trunnions and other, marginal, quality upgrades.
That mentioned, the JWBS-14CS is worthy of the Jet name, has been a pleasure to own and use, and I like to recommend it.

I bought this JWBS-14CS‘s base at my native woodworkers retailer after making an attempt one of many so called “Universal” mobile bases.
